Rising to Valhalla

In the midst of so many myths and legends, the Valkyries caught my attention because in order to select among the dead the most worthy warriors for the halls of Valhalla, these unique beings are endowed with a gift by Odin himself.

In order to record this magical moment where a valkyrie descends from the heavens in all her divinity and rescues a noble warrior, I decided to apply some techniques of digital painting and advanced retouching in a composition previously imagined from some references that I absorbed in research on the theme.

Composition references
To make my idea a reality, I had to photograph my model who plays Valkyrie in composition, as well as having a photograph of me that represents the chosen warrior, all with the few resources I had and with a tight deadline.

A selection from dozens of photos like these was made by me to be used in the final art. It is important to remember that more than one of these photos were merged together to arrive at the perspective that I really wanted, and below you will find just an example of some of the photographs of the models that were used.

To bring my ideas to life I went in search of as many references that could inspire me to arrive at the final result of the work, thus looking for examples of armor for the Valkyrie in addition to Viking garments, as well as hair and accessories that could be incorporated into the work .

Art development

After selecting the ideal assets and references I started to develop the art in general. The development process was not linear, but for a better understanding of the evolution of art, I will record some steps I went through and how I improved lighting and composition in general, starting from the blocking of the two characters and reaching different versions until reaching a result near the end.
